The state Independent Judicial Election Qualification Commission for the Fourth Judicial District has released its ratings of qualifications for judicial candidates in the district, including for Ogdensburg City Court Judge, finding two of three candidates qualified.
There will be a three-way race for the Ogdensburg city judge seat. Candidates are Mary E. Rain, Potsdam, Republican and Independence parties; William R. Small, Ogdensburg, Republican; and Marcia L. LeMay, Ogdensburg, Democrat.
The IJEQC ratings statement declared that Marcia L. LeMay and William R. Small are “qualified,” and made no mention of Mary E. Rain.
IJEQCs have been established in each state judicial districts as independent screening panels for judicial candidates. Each IJEQC is charged with the responsibility of evaluating the qualifications of judicial candidates in its district who are seeking election and voluntarily submit answers to a questionnaire.
In the Fourth Judicial District, which encompasses the counties of Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Fulton, Hamilton, Montgomery, Saratoga, Schenectady, St. Lawrence, Warren and Washington, the evaluation process included an investigation of the background and qualifications of each candidate who chose to participate.
