MASSENA – The New York Power Authority (NYPA) announced that the St. Lawrence River Research and Educational Fund (SLRREF) is now accepting applications for the 2023 funding cycle.
SLRREF provides funding to support environmental research and education projects relating to the ecology of the St. Lawrence River watershed in the immediate vicinity of the St. Lawrence – FDR Power Project, Massena.
To be eligible for funding, a project must pertain to waters and immediately adjoining terrestrial features of the main stem of the St. Lawrence River or the portion of St. Lawrence River tributaries that are within the St. Lawrence Valley. Projects within these tributaries are required to have a definite relevance to the main stem river.
The focus of projects will be the stretch of river between Ogdensburg, and Summerstown, Ont. Relevant areas upstream and downstream -including international waters- may be included as part of proposed projects.
NYPA established SLRREF during the relicensing of the St. Lawrence-Franklin D. Roosevelt Power Project in 2003 by providing the underlying funds of just over $1 million, with the income from this amount to be used to fund the operation of SLRREF.
Proposals must be received by COB, December 31, 2022.
Please send proposals to Board Chair Jill Winters at (Jill.Winters@NYPA.Gov).
