The St. Lawrence Leadership Institute was designed to foster the development of emerging and existing leaders for the advancement of St. Lawrence County, its businesses, and its communities. This leadership development is achieved through three program elements: leadership skills development, issues awareness, and networking.

Such skills include Communication; Emotional Intelligence (awareness of self and others) and Mental Models; Strengths-Based Leadership; Reframing Leadership, Authentic Leadership in Self; Building and Leading Effective Teams; Conflict Resolution and Negotiations; Leading Organizational Change; and Ethical Leadership.

Civic Awareness and Engagement

Divergent views on several issues vital to St. Lawrence County are presented in a variety of formats to help participants appreciate the past, understand the present, and prepare for the future. Topics include Agriculture; Government; Justice; Business; Social Issues; Healthcare; Education; Arts; and Environment.

Networking

With over 200 alumni since 1993, this program provides participants with critical opportunities to build professional network within the county and remain engaged as active leaders equipped to effect change in their professions and communities.

“The St. Lawrence Leadership Institute is a tremendous program. Through SLLI, hundreds of citizens have gained the leadership skills, issues knowledge, and networks they needed to make a difference in our county. SLLI continues to provide inspiring expert speakers, an empowering curriculum, and a robust network. I encourage anyone that wants to develop their leadership and help enhance the strength and quality of life of our county to enroll in the program,” said Ben Dixon, President of the SLLI Board, SLLI alumnus, and Executive Director of the St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce.
