A St. Lawrence River ice fishing tournament is to be the subject of an upcoming television show to be broadcast on Time Warner Sports.

The annual St. Lawrence River Walleye Association tournament’s goals include educating sportsmen and the public about the ecology of the St. Lawrence River, restocking the river and promoting tourism in St. Lawrence County.

The Team E Media television production shows highlights the 2011 Northern Pike Challenge, an event that drew in almost 800 participants with thousands of dollars given away in cash and prizes for northern pike in adult and children's categories. The ice fishing tournament is a catch and release event.

Also to be featured on this show will be footage showing efforts to collect eggs from mature walleye through to the end of the process where fingerling walleye are stocked in local rivers.

This program will air the week of Dec. 31, with additional showings in the next week, on Time Warner Sports and again in April on the Pursuit Channel.

This production was paid for by St. Lawrence County FISHCAP.

For more information on the show, go to www.TeamEMedia.com or check your local listings.

For more information on the St. Lawrence River Walleye Association go to www.stlawrenceriverwalleyeassociation.com and check out the Northern Ice Fishing Challenge Feb. 25. There will be cash prizes of $1,000 per hour for the top three northern pike.

There will also be thousands of dollars worth of door prizes given away. This year's grand door prize will be a 500cc 2012 Polaris 4 wheeler.
