POTSDAM – Anesthesiologist Dr. David Layer has joined St. Lawrence Health System’s medical team at Canton-Potsdam Hospital as the new chief of anesthesiology.

Dr. Layer is Diplomate American Board of Anesthesiology certified. He comes to Canton-Potsdam Hospital with experience as an executive vice chair of anesthesiology, a medical director of perioperative anesthesia services, and an assistant professor of anesthesiology at uniformed services university of the Health Sciences, Bethesda, Md. He is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists.

As an anesthesiologist, Dr. Layer ensures the safety of patients undergoing surgery. He specializes in perioperative care, developing anesthetic plans, and the administration of anesthetics, SLHS said.

“My family and I are excited to open this new chapter in our lives” Dr. Layer said in a prepare statement from SLHS. “During my anesthesiology residency training in Rochester, we grew to love upstate New York. I look forward to working in the more personal environment Canton-Potsdam Hospital provides, and getting to know the faculty and staff.”
