St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Office is reminding residents that  Governor Cuomo has implemented a "pause," on many normal activities.

"As of 8 p.m. this evening, New York Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo has orders that all non-essential businesses close pursuant to orders that he has declared relating to the COVID-19 Pandemic. With this order there are many unanswered questions as it relates to how much orders are going to be enforced," St. Lawrence County Sheriff Bigwarfe said in a release to media.

"First and foremost, we ask for the health and safety of all our St. Lawrence County citizens that everyone abide by the governor's orders and recommendations," he said.

Bigwarfe said that compliance would be "optimal" for all parties involved.

"However if steps are needed to be taken to ensure compliance, we may notify the correlating governing body respective to the business," he said.

Bigwarfe said if needed bars and taverns could be reported to the liquor authority and restaurants could be reported to the state health department.

"Furthermore, the governor has stated that there could also be civil penalties levied if further compliance is not achieved,"

Bigwarfe said over the past few days his deputies have responded to various non-compliance issues and helped educate the people and asked for compliance.

"We have yielded positive results in all cases and certainly hope this trend continues to be the case," he said.

He said details on the workforce reduction under the executive order can be found at esd.ny.gov/guidance-executive-order-2026

For those who have questions he urged them to call his office at 315-229-3976.

"When we receive more guidance from the governor's office as it relates to this topic. I will be sure to share it with the public. In the meantime stay home, practice social distancing if you need to go out and lets all stay healthy," he said.

The 10-point NYS on PAUSE plan is as follows:

• Effective at 8 p.m. on Sunday, March 22, all non -essential businesses statewide will be closed;
