St. Lawrence County Sheriff notes National Police Week

Posted

CANTON — The St. Lawrence County Sheriff released a statement praising the work of local law enforcement officers and sheriff’s deputies in honor of National Police Week which starts May 15.

“In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation that designated May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week that date falls is Police Week. He established this day as an opportunity for law enforcement to honor their brethren who lost their lives in the line of duty and work towards reducing the number of those that may fall in the future,” writes Sheriff Brooks J. Bigwarfe. “These officers are honored and remembered for making the ultimate sacrifice to protect citizens of our great Country.”

The Sheriff continues:

“National Police Week recognizes that law enforcement plays an essential role in safeguarding the rights and freedoms of citizens while understanding their responsibilities, hazards, sacrifices, and duty to serve and safeguard life and property against violence and disorder.

“I would like to recognize and honor all law enforcement agencies around the Country, including our law enforcement partners in St. Lawrence County. Police Officers continue to serve vital roles in 2022 protecting and serving communities, and many times working behind the scenes without the knowledge of the general public.

“Thank you to all Police Officers and especially to the Deputy Sheriffs of St. Lawrence County for their remarkable leadership, commitment, and dedication to serving the citizens of St. Lawrence County.”
