St. Lawrence County Sheriff endorses Assemblyman from Queensbury

Assemblyman Dan Stec, R-Queensbury, has been endorsed by the former and current St. Lawrence County sheriffs in his run to succeed Sen. Betty Little for the 45th Senate District.

Sheriff Brooks Bigwarfe and former sheriff Kevin Wells are both backing Stec.

Stec has also been endorsed by the New York State Sheriff’s Association President Jeff Murphy. Stec has also been endorsed by the PBA of New York State Troopers, PBA of New York State and NYSCOPBA.

A news release from Stec's campaign said he is in favor of repealing the statewide bail reform and opposes the movement to defund police agencies, a movement his campaign calls "radical.”

“I’d like to thank both Sheriff Bigwarfe and Sheriff Wells for their endorsements,” Stec said in a prepared statement from his campaign. “Both are dedicated public servants who have worked hard to protect St. Lawrence County residents and I’m proud to call them colleagues. As our next State Senator, I look forward to working with them and helping to repeal major portions of bail reform and provide local law enforcement with the resources and support they need to continue serving and protecting our communities with selflessness and distinction.”

“As an Assemblyman, Dan Stec has a strong reputation for supporting police,” Bigwarfe said in a statement from the Stec campaign. “He’s been a leader in the repeal of bail reform efforts and has spoken out against the dangers of defunding the police. I’m proud to endorse him for State Senate and believe he will be an excellent Senator for this district.”

“Dan Stec is a stand-up leader. He’s shown himself willing and capable of working with law enforcement and has been a strong public safety advocate,” Wells said in the endorsement announcement. “I believe Dan Stec is the best option for State Senator and he will do a great job protecting communities and fighting on behalf of local law enforcement.”
