CANTON -- St. Lawrence County residents can now use credit cards to pay for trash services at transfer stations.

County legislators at their Monday, Dec. 2 meeting unanimously voted in favor of the resolution to contract with Allpaid, Inc. to provide the service at transfer stations.

The county does not expect to incur a cost for providing the new payment option.

“Payment by credit card has become a common form of payment at many businesses and government organizations,” the resolution says. “St. Lawrence County residents should have as many opportunities and conveniences as possible to make payments.”

The board in a separate resolution unanimously approved fee hikes for some solid waste items. Most of the increases will impact contractors. Items increased by 50 cents each include direct haul of sludge, sewage, industrial waste and asbestos.

The City of Ogdensburg will see a major hike for its municipal sludge disposal from $70 to $122 per ton.

Municipal fall and spring cleanups will rise from $115 to $120 per ton.
