St. Lawrence County public transit temporarily reduces its service

St. Lawrence County Public Transit, operated by The Arc Jefferson - St. Lawrence, announced a reduction of service for public transit lines starting March 22.

The St. Lawrence County Department of Public Health directed that Public Transit temporarily decrease its routes to reduce bus service to a number of venues including the colleges and universities in St. Lawrence County.

People are encouraged to stay home as often as possible; limiting travel to food shopping, medical appointments, and employment. While there are currently no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in St. Lawrence County, this action will further support the safety of both residents and students.

Students impacted by this change should contact college officials for guidance. University personnel needing options for food delivery to students may contact St. Lawrence County Public Transit at 315-386-2600 on Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The Transit team may be able to assist in delivering food to campus during the temporary suspension of passenger transport.

In an effort to minimize the risk of COVID-19, the agency will be implementing additional cleaning and disinfection measures and waiving fare collection until at least Sunday, April 19, for customers needing to travel for essential purposes. Routes will continue to operate per the schedules noted at www.slcnypublictransit.com. Please check the website regularly, as there are frequent changes resulting from Executive Orders enacted by Governor Andrew Cuomo.

St. Lawrence County’s Public Transit System provides transportation throughout most towns in the County on Monday to Friday. Buses are wheelchair accessible, bicycle racks are available, and there is free Wi-Fi service. Find us on Facebook @SLCPublicTransit for more information.
