CANTON — St. Lawrence County Public Health has been awarded funding for the New York State Public Health Corps Fellowship Program.
County legislators unanimously approved accepting $47,220 in federal aid for the program during a full board meeting on Aug. 1.
According to the resolution, the New York State Department of Health will work with local health departments and community partners to recruit and deploy NYSPHC fellows across the state, with the exception of New York City.
The positions will be full-time, paid positions with a minimum term of one-year.
The program will also support up to ten fellows annually, of which one would be a Graduate Fellow, and a local coordinator to help build public health capacity to support COVID-19 response operations and preparedness, the resolution states.
The resolution also states that public health is eligible to receive $1,532,660 in funding over two years, $766,330 annually, but due to the COVID-19 epidemic in 2021 the program was unable to be put in place.
With the passing of the resolution, the treasurer can now modify the 2022 Public Health Department budget to accept the federal funds.
