Norwood Police arrested 48 year-old Christopher M. Brooks on a warrant for animal in violation of the agricultural and markets law abandonment, officers said.
The arrest came after an investigation of an abandoned dog reported to police on Oct. 5, police said.
Officers allege that Brooks moved to Raymondville, vacating his house on Ridge Street, but he left behind his pet dog.
The animal was found to be in need of food and medical care, and was removed to the Potsdam Animal Shelter, police said.
Brooks was cited and released on his own recognizance and will answer the charges later this month in Town of Potsdam court.
The Potsdam Animal Shelter was able to bring the dog back to good health.
The shelter is always in need of community assistance, and gladly accepts donations of new, unopened dog and cat food, in both cans and bagged varieties.
