CANTON – St. Lawrence County legislators passed two resolutions proclaiming recognition days for nurses and police officers.
They took the actions during their monthly full board meeting Monday, May 3.
May 6 was proclaimed “National Recognition Day for Nurses.”
The bill says that “nurses have worked countless hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus in St. Lawrence County, at great risk to their own health, in order to provide lifesaving medical care and necessary service to the citizens of the county.”
It also notes that nurses “became steadfast advocates for patients, going above and beyond the call of duty” for patients who were alone because of not being able to receive visitors during the pandemic.
A separate motion proclaims May 15 as “Police Officer Memorial Day” in the county.
It applauds law enforcement personnel for providing “a commendable public service to the wellbeing of residents” and preserving the rights and security of all citizens.”
“The Board of Legislators calls upon all citizens to join in honoring our police officers, past and present, for their performance of duty and service to St. Lawrence County,” the resolution reads.
