The unemployment rate in St. Lawrence County currently stands at 3.7%, without seasonal adjustment, 0.6 percent lower than the New York state seasonally adjusted rate.
According to a state Department of Labor report issued this week, the county’s unemployment rate increased 0.4 percent when comparing Dec. 2021 to Dec. 2022.
The state unemployment rate is 4.3 percent.
In neighboring counties, the unemployment in Jefferson County is 3.9 percent, up 0.4 percent from 3.5 percent in Dec. 2021. Franklin County’s unemployment rate is 3.4 percent, a rise of 0.4 percent from 3.0 percent in Dec. 2021.
Rates are calculated using methods prescribed by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The State’s area unemployment rates rely in part on the results of the Current Population Survey, which contacts approximately 3,100 households in New York State each month.
