St. Lawrence County Historical Association hosting photo contest of historic county structures

CANTON — The St. Lawrence County Historical Association (SLCHA) is accepting photos of historic county structures beginning through Nov. 5 for an amateur photo contest.

Rules include:

Amateur photographers only, please. (Defined by never receiving money for services of photography.)

Submission Cost: SLCHA members $5, non-members $10.

Photos may be taken by camera or phone. Images should be 8 ½” x 11”.

Images must include a portion of an historic building in St. Lawrence county. The entire structure or building front need not be included.

Structures may be a business, church, residential, or farm building that is at least 75 years old.

The structure’s identification and address must be submitted along with the photo.

Photo must be in its original state: it cannot be altered in any way, including – but not limited to – removing, adding, reversing, or distorting subjects within the image.

Images will be judged on uniqueness.

Photos will not be accepted by email.

Printed submissions will be accepted until 5 p.m. on Friday, November 5, 2021, either in person at the SLCHA, 3 East Main St., Canton, NY, or by mail at P.O. Box 8, Canton, NY 13617.

Award Categories and Details

Placement Awards: First Place, Second Place, Honorable Mention for adults; and First Place, Second Place, Honorable Mention for ages 9-16 years.

Monetary Awards: First Place $25, Second Place $10. Awards will be announced on November 10; winners will be notified by email.

All copyrights to photos are the property of the photographer. The SLCHA does ask for permission to use the winning photos at no cost for a full year after the close of the contest.

All photos will be displayed at the SLCHA from Nov. 9, 2021 through Jan. 5, 2022.

Employees of the SLCHA are prohibited from participating.
