St. Lawrence County getting $61,000 for food and shelter programs

St. Lawrence County has been awarded federal funds made available through Congress under the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program.

St. Lawrence County has been awarded $61,176 to supplement Emergency Food and Shelter Programs in the county, and $6,825 in additional SSA funds.

The local board was charged to distribute funds to help expand the capacity of food and shelter programs in high-need areas around the county.

A local board will determine how the funds awarded St. Lawrence County will be distributed among the Emergency Food and Shelter Programs run by local service agencies in the area. The board is responsible for recommending agencies to receive these funds and any additional funds made available under this phase of the program.

Under the terms of the grant from the National Board, local agencies chosen to receive funds must be private voluntary non-profits or units of government, be eligible to receive Federal funds, have an accounting system, practice nondiscrimination, have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food or shelter programs, and if they are a private voluntary organization, have a voluntary board. Qualifying agencies are urged to apply.

Public or private voluntary agencies interested in applying for Emergency Food and Shelter Program funds must contact David Fenton at St. Lawrence County CDP, Inc., One Commerce Lane, Canton, NY 13617, (315) 714-2720 for an application by August 31, 2019. The deadline for applications to be returned to David Fenton at the St. Lawrence County CDP, Inc. office will be Sept. 5.
