St. Lawrence County Clerk's Office opening June 19 by appointment after three month closure

CANTON -- After 3 months of the County Clerk’s Office being closed to the public, the office can once again serve the citizens of St. Lawrence County in person, said a press release from the office.

The clerk's office will be opening, by appointment only, on Friday, June 19.

The types of service provided will be limited to necessary, in-person transactions only. The clerk's office is still encouraging mailing and the use of its drop boxes whenever possible. There are protocols that have been set in place that must be adhered to for personnel to serve the public in person. The clerk's office asks the public to understand that these are for the protection of both the public and the staff.

The County Clerk’s Office will be open from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. until further notice. A few days of extended hours and some Saturday morning appointments are available, said a press release from the office.

Visitors must have an appointment.

Only the person requiring clerk's services will be allowed in the office.

Visitors are asked to have all paperwork completed prior to their appointment.

Signs and arrows will direct visitors to the appropriate traffic flow within the building to maintain social distancing.

Those coming to the clerk's office must wear a mask when inside the building.

Hand sanitizer will be available.

Visitors are asked to bring their own pen.

Give the clerk your documents then step back from the counter.

The County Clerk asks for the public's patience over the next few weeks or months as this is a new process for everyone. The office expects an enormous amount of phone calls but the office personnel want the public to know they are doing their best to answer those calls.

"I’d like to thank the County Clerk staff for all they have been doing over the last few months. Even though we were not open to the public, the staff continue to work in limited numbers to answer phones and process real property documents. When calling or visiting the County Clerk’s Office, please be patient. The staff are doing their best with the current situation. The rules that need to be followed are out of their control. We are all in this together so I ask for your understanding and cooperation as we work through this new way of serving the public," said Sandra W. Santamoor, St. Lawrence County clerk, in an email to North Country This Week.
