CANTON – When St. Catherine of Siena Academy in Canton begins the new school year, Karl Doty will be on board as full-time headmaster and 5th grade teacher and Morgan Morse as Pre-K and Kindergarten teacher.

As St. Catherine of Siena Academy expands by two grades to include Pre-K through 5th Grade this upcoming academic year, the Board of Governors is delighted to welcome the appointments of Doty and Morse.

Doty and Morse will be joining returning Siena Academy teachers Kathy Olsen in the 1st/2nd grade and Andrew Carpino in the 3rd/4th grade classrooms as well as Jill Josephs, who teaches Math.

An adventurous road led Doty to Siena Academy and a passion for Classical Education. He enjoyed a stunning career as a professional bassist, having performed on four continents with multiple trips to the Grammy Awards. He held teaching positions at Dartmouth College and Bates College before fatherhood ignited a desire to focus more wholly on forming his own young sons as lifelong seekers of Truth, Goodness and Beauty.

He brings his experience as a co-founder of an internationally acclaimed music ensemble and non-profit (A Far Cry) to his administrative role at Siena Academy and a blossoming love of Latin and all things Classical Curriculum to his 5th grade classroom this year.

An alumna of both SUNY Canton and SUNY Potsdam, Morse studied education and literacy with a special concentration in early childhood education and development. Upon graduation, she embraced entrepreneurialism by starting a business providing educational services to families navigating virtual/hybrid learning and home-schooling during the height of the pandemic. It was during that time she had the opportunity to explore Classical Education Curriculum and fell in love with its emphasis on cultivating the transcendentals in the world around us.

Her professional work and studies span across a variety of locations, from teaching 4th grade at a private school, conducting research in Montessori schools to teaching English and studying literacy in four European countries. Ms. Morse is eager to bring her passion for Classical Curriculum to her students and share in the excitement of witnessing their love for our Creator flourish in Siena Academy’s Pre-K and Kindergarten classroom.

Siena Academy will be accepting registration for its few remaining spots for a limited time. To register, visit www.sienaacademy.org. The school is located at 2 Powers Street, Canton, NY and busing is available to students who live in school districts within 15 miles of Canton Central Schools.
