SOUTH COLTON – Holes shot through a portable toilet near the Racquettte Valley Fish and Game Club's shooting range are prompting the club to close its rifle range as of Thursday.

“It is very possible that somebody could have been in that building when it was shot at,” said club treasurer Mary Long. “It could have been a town employee, a hunter, or anyone that was using the facility. That person could have been killed or seriously hurt.”

The incident has been reported to police authorities, Long said.

“The range is closed indefinitely until we can determine what other measures we may take,” she said.

“Obviously, the person or people that did this are not responsible hunters and should not even be in the woods. It is sad to think that it could have been one of our members as the only people that are supposed to be there with firearms are members due to the liability of our organization. This is another case of an irresponsible person or people ruining the privileges that are offered to the public,” Long said.

The portable toilet had been placed near the range by the Town of Colton for workers at the sand pit there to use.
