CANTON - St. Lawrence University's New York City Semester, which allows students to study and participate in internships in finance and the arts, will have sufficient support for at least 10 years because of the gifts from more than 20 alumni totaling $4 million.
The program is now in its inaugural semester, with 14 students living and studying in New York. Students in the New York City Semester are housed at the 92nd Street Y, and spend three days each week at internship positions with finance and arts organizations; the internships have been arranged through St. Lawrence graduates.
Students also take classes and participate in field trips to historic sites, galleries, museums and landmarks in the city.
Application deadline for the Fall 2012 semester is March 8.
