CANTON -- The St. Lawrence University men's cross country team enters the 2010 season as the No. 3 team in the Atlantic Region according to a recently released pre-season poll.
The Saints, who were 11th overall at the 2009 NCAA Championships, follow NYU and Geneseo State in this year's pre-season rankings.
The Saints return a wealth of talent and will be led by 2009 All-American Dan Ramsey '11, who finished fourth at the national championship race last fall. Meanwhile, senior Jeremy Mwenda, juniors John Johnston and Seth Jackson and 2009 Liberty League Co-Rookie of the Year Sam Rakoc will bolster the team's line-up heading into the 2010 campaign.
"We are proud to be considered amongst the top teams in our region, which has often found success at the NCAA Championship race," said Saints' head coach John Newman. "I believe we have a solid blend of leadership and talent along with a deep roster that will make us competitive in our league and at the national level.
NYU and Geneseo State were the only teams ahead of St. Lawrence in the 2010 Atlantic Regional Pre-Season rankings, while Plattsburgh State and Rochester followed at No.'s 4 and 5, respectively. Rounding out the top-10 were Fredonia State, The College of New Jersey, Oneonta State, RIT and Cortland State.
The 2010 United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national poll will be released on Monday, August 30th.
