The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for southwestern St. Lawrence County until 5:45 p.m.

Within the past hour, National Weather Service Doppler radar tracked a severe thunderstorm capable of producing damaging winds in excess of 60 miles per hour near Rossie, which was moving southeast at 35 mph.

Locations in the warning include but are not limited to Gouverneur, Fowler, South Edwards, Fine and Wanakena.

The thunderstorm is also producing deadly cloud to ground

lightning, National Weather Service forecasters said.

When it is safe, residents are asked to report damaging winds or hail to the National Weather Service by calling 1-800-863-3427 or by submitting a storm report at weather.Gov/Burlington.

If a major storm hits, weather forecasters say people should get to safety immediately. Winds may knock down trees and power lines and damage buildings. Large hail may cause injury and damage property.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch, which is not as serious as a Thunderstorm Warning, remains in effect until 8 p.m. throughout northern New York.
