State Senator Patty Ritchie visited several elderly neighbors in her hometown of Heuvelton on Thursday, delivering ice cream and cold water to help them beat the heat.
"I've been urging residents of Central and Northern New York to check on their elderly neighbors to see how they are doing during the heat wave," Ritchie said. "It's rare when temperatures rise like this so it's important for everyone to look out for each other."
Heat is the number one weather-related cause of injury and death, according to the National Weather Service.
The NWS says Friday's highs on Friday will be in the high 80s, cooler than Thursday but still hot for the North Country.
