Sen. Ritchie endorsing Rupp, Assemblywoman Russell endorsing Regan in county clerk race

The electoral race for St. Lawrence County clerk has drawn endorsements from state legislators for the two candidates, current clerk Gavin Regan and former deputy clerk Mary Lou Rupp.

State Sen. Patty Ritchie, who left the clerk’s post after her election to the state Senate’s 48th District, is endorsing her former deputy, Mary Lou Rupp. Both women are Republicans.

Rupp was let go after Democrat Gavin Regan was appointed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo to fill out Ritchie’s term as clerk.

Assemblywoman Addie Russell, a Democrat, has announced her endorsement of Regan to stay on as county clerk.

“I picked Mary Lou from the DMV to be my top deputy because of her experience as a small business person, her work ethic and her reputation for independence,” Ritchie said in her endorsement announcement.

“For nearly a decade, we worked together to make the County Clerk’s Office into one of the finest in the state,” Ritchie said.

“When I left the County Clerk’s Office to become State Senator, I know that I left it in the hands of an experienced, qualified and proven leader, who would build on our success and continue to get the job done.”

Assemblywoman Russell said that Regan is “a professional and dedicated County Clerk. He runs an efficient and responsive office, his qualifications are unquestionable.

“Gavin can be counted on to help be part of the solution to the tough budget problems we face.”
