OSWEGATCHIE -- State Sen. Patty Ritchie recently secured $300,000 in state funding to build a new bathhouse at Eel Weir State Park.

The funding is part of $550,000 designated for park upgrades in Ritchie’s 48th Senate District which includes the towns of northern St. Lawrence County.

At Eel Weir State Park, the new bathhouse will replace the current bathhouse which has been in dire need of repairs, is visually unpleasant, and fails to meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards, the senator’s announcement said.

“With a wealth of recreational activities for residents and tourists, New York State Parks are a wonderful place to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors in our region. In addition, our state parks promote the importance of our children, and adults, getting outside and becoming more physically active,” Ritchie said.

In 2018, a record 74 million people visited New York State Parks, historic sites, campgrounds and trails, said the press release from Ritchie’s office.

The $500,000 secured by the senator also allots $250,000 for upgrades at Southwick Beach State Park in Jefferson County.

In addition to this funding, Ritchie also recently secured $100,000 for the renovation of the Wellesley Island State Park’s Minna Anthony Common Nature Center, the release said.
