CANTON -- Now that a group that says it is dedicated to reform in New York politics has passed out its “Enemies of Reform” list, St. Lawrence County Clerk Patty Ritchie says it’s “disappointing” that Democratic Sen. Darrell Aubertine “has chosen not to endorse NY Uprising’s reform pledge.”
Ritchie, a Republican state Senate candidate and one of the group’s “Heroes of Reform,” will be challenging Aubertine in the November election.
New York Uprising, described as a grassroots reform movement started by former government leaders from the Republican and Democratic parties, has listed Ritchie, a Republican, for backing their reform initiatives.
“I was one of over 240 candidates and incumbents, both Democrats and Republicans, from all over the state, including legislative candidates, as well as the major party candidates for governor, comptroller and attorney general, who have committed to the group’s common sense budget, ethics and election reforms aimed at cleaning up a state government that was famously dubbed ‘most dysfunctional’ in the nation -- and since that time has only gotten worse,” Ritchie said.
“For his part, my opponent joins just a handful of mostly downstate Democrat incumbents in rejecting the reform platform.”
Ritchie is seeking election to the state Senate’s 48th District, which includes Oswego, Jefferson and St. Lawrence Counties.
