COLTON – The organizer of the annual Ride to Breathe motorcycle ride to support Cystic Fibrosis research is hoping for drier conditions for the 19th annual event set June 4 in Colton.

“Last year we got caught in the rain and had 24 riders and still banked $6,500,” said Jennifer Dean who coordinates the annual ride in tribute to her daughter, Bethany Dean, who died in 2006 from cystic fibrosis.

The ride will start and finish at the Colton Amvets Post. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. with stands up at 11 a.m. The fee is $20 per single rider, $30 for double, $15 for extra T-shirts, and $12 for a pasta-themed dinner.

“Even though it was a rainy day, I got to ride again with my son. We got soaked but it was a fun day. It still melts my heart that I lost a precious angel to a horrible disease but I always am blessed on who come out to support this event even if the weather is crazy,” Dean remarked.

Dean noted she lost her father to cancer last year making last year’s ride a double tribute.

“This is something my father would not want me to miss. He told me every year how proud he was and I was not going to let him down. So not only did my son and I ride in memory of Bethany but also my father,” she said.

The 2023 edition will also feature a Rose Garden where participants can win cash prizes.

There are 162 spots with each spot costing $10. Half of the money raised from the garden will go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the other half up for grabs if someone can reveal one or more of three roses in the garden. If someone finds a motorcycle they will also have a chance to win prizes.

The public is welcome to stop by the Amvets Post to enjoy the festivities or make a donation.

Ride to Breathe is closing in on the $200,000 mark with approximately $192,000 raised over the 18-year period.

Proceeds will benefit the research and therapeutic development programs of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
