RICHVILLE – As the deadline for an online contest approaches, everyone is invited to the Richville Free Library Saturday to vote in support of the village’s effort to win a playground.

Richville is entered in the Reader's Digest contest at wehearyouamerica.readersdigest.com. The winner gets a $50,000 in development and support for community improvement, and Richville is hoping to win and build a playground to replace one that had to close.

As of Thursday, Richville was at number 20 in the rankings, with their tally approaching 400,000 votes. They’ve been moving up slowly: last week they were in 24th spot, and early Thursday they were at 21st. Top dog remains Lake City, Iowa. Richville’s nearest competition in the North Country is Lyons Falls, in Lewis County, in the 33rd spot.

The library is hosting a voting session from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday. They would like to see as many people as possible there and voting.

“We have only this week to go,” said Library Manager Lila Young. Voting closes Thursday night, March 1.

People are welcome to vote at the library or from home. All you need is to go to the site, register, and vote – and vote and vote and vote. People can also upload photos, videos, and comments.

Be sure to enter the zip code 13681 or Richville, NY. You can also reach the site through the Richville Free Library’s Facebook page.

Automated voting is not permitted, but anyone can vote from anywhere as many times as they like.

For more information call Lila Young at 287-0667 or 287-1481.
