Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, who represents St. Lawrence County in Congress, recently cosponsored the GIVE MILK Act and the DAIRY PRIDE Act, two pieces of bipartisan legislation that would expand the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) access to dairy products for their nutrition programs, and enforce labeling standards for dairy products sold across the country.
The GIVE MILK Act allows participants in the USDA's Special Supplemental Nutrition for Women, Infants, and Children Program choose 2% milk and whole milk, in addition to 1% and non-fat.
The DAIRY PRIDE Act, which Congresswoman Stefanik previously cosponsored in the 116th Congress, imposes measures to provide clear dairy labels on products, making it easier for consumers to make purchase decisions according to the unique needs of their families.
“The GIVE MILK Act and DAIRY PRIDE Act are bipartisan, common-sense solutions that will improve the dairy industry and simultaneously help North Country families, consumers, families, and farmers.” said Congresswoman Stefanik.
