Congressman Bill Owens, D-Plattsburgh, urging compromise in the ongoing budget cut debate on the House floor, has again asked Speaker John Boehner to immediately schedule a vote to suspend Congressional pay in the event of a government shutdown.
"We have that responsibility, that obligation, and we must lead by example," Owens told his colleagues.
Legislation aiming to do this has passed the Senate (S. 388), but was attached to a different bill in the House on Friday, not allowing for an up-or-down vote on the specific provision.
If the House were to pass the Senate legislation, it would only need the President's signature to become law.
