CANTON – A Rensselaer Falls man is in county lockup on $25,000 bail after allegedly burglarizing a Canton home, stealing a car, damaging property and drunk driving Saturday, according to St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies.

Jason A. Spriggs, 34, of 211 King St., Rensselaer Falls, has been charged with second degree burglary, third degree grand larceny, criminal mischief, petit larceny, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and misdemeanor driving while intoxicated as a result of the arrest.

Sheriff’s deputies report that they responded to complaints that Spriggs was creating a disturbance on King Street in Ogdensburg, and was leaving the scene in allegedly stolen car. When police located Spriggs in Heuvelton, they report they discovered the car was indeed stolen. Investigation also showed that Spriggs had burglarized the home of Richard and Beverly Murray, Canton Street, Rensselaer Falls, stealing numerous items, including a computer and the car. All items were recovered, however, the car was damaged from hotwiring.

In a separate incident that day, Spriggs also reportedly cut up a table and burned it, and stole tools from the Shannon Schwartfigure residence on King Street.

Spriggs will face further court action at a later date.
