HEUVELTON – A Rensselaer Falls man was ordered held on bail after he allegedly stole a vehicle from a local tavern, hit guide rails, and drove drunk to his hometown early Wednesday.

Deputies state they responded to a report of a stolen vehicle taken from Doug’s Tavern in Heuvelton.

They allege Daniel W. Lester, 25, of 102 State St., Rensselaer Falls, took the vehicle, and while driving, he struck guide rails on Co. Rt. 15 between Heuvelton and Rensselaer Falls, causing damage to the vehicle.

He then continued driving the vehicle to Rensselaer Falls, where he abandoned it.

Deputies, with the assistance of border patrol agents and state police, located Lester at his residence and arrested him.

Lester was charged with a felony count of third-degree grand larceny, a felony count of third-degree criminal mischief, petit larceny, driving while intoxicated, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident.

He was arraigned in Potsdam Town Court and held on $1,500 cash bail or $3,000 bail bond.
