POTSDAM -- The public hearing on the Town of Potsdam’s proposed solar law, scheduled for 6 p.m. July 23, has been cancelled.
The proposed law is being updated and a new draft will be made available on the town website as soon as it is available, according to a press release from the town.
The board is waiting to hear back from attorney Kevin Murphy of the Wladis Law Firm, who is advising the town on the new code, and on the specific recommendations for revision made by the St. Lawrence County Planning Board, “a few of which were insignificant but a few were more significant,” said Supervisor Ann Carvill.
Then the town will revise the draft section of the code that applies to solar installations. The Potsdam board and others around the state have been working to revise their codes to accommodate the increasing demand for larger solar arrays, which have not been sufficiently addressed in most earlier municipal codes.
Once the revisions are made, the board must set another date for a hearing on the changes to local law the new code would require.
