POTSDAM – The Village Diner, in Market Square Mall off of Depot Street, is for sale.
It is not closing, co-owners Greg and Mary Circe note.
They have succeeded in turning the spot into a bright and welcoming place for food and talk, after several attempts by a succession of owners to make a go of it there.
“When we decided to move to Potsdam in 2003 our business plan was to open a small diner with good quality food, fair prices and always something new,” said Greg and Mary in a note.
They wanted to make it a friendly place, and “it has become a regular meeting place for friends and colleagues.”
They met their goals, they said, and have seen revenues rise every year.
But, they said, “We now have grandchildren living too far away for us to attend school concerts, tee-ball games and grandparents’ days. We need to be there.”
So when they strike a deal with a buyer, they’ll be off to the Boston area. Until then it’s business as usual.
They say they have made lots of friends whom they will miss.
“I wish I could pick it up with a helicopter, customers and all, and take it with us,” Greg said.
