North Country This Week
POTSDAM — The village board of trustees have hired an engineer to study the possible abandonment of Liberty Street as part of the planned redesign of the Raymond Street block.
At their meeting March 6, the board agreed to hire Barton and Loguidice, D.P.C. for a fee not to exceed $10,200.
The firm will prepare a traffic and roadway abandonment study for Liberty Street.
The study will be used in connection with the abandonment of Liberty and development and construction of Brooks Street, which will be a new connector between Raymond and Depot streets.
The village will pay for the study from a Northern Border Regional Commission grant and a village match.
The redevelopment of that block is expected to include planned work centering on Market Square Mall and redistribution of parking in addition to the construction of Brooks Street. Work has previously been done in Garner Park along the river which will be part of the village’s Riverwalk Trail.
The redesign of the block is still very much in planning stages, said Village Planner Fred Hanss.
