POTSDAM — The village honored its soon-to-be retiring Department of Public Works superintendent with an outstanding service award.
Village Administrator Greg Thompson presented Superintendent Jim Corbett with the award at the village board’s regular meeting Jan. 3. Corbett announced in December that would retire from the post on Jan. 14. The superintendent has served the village in various capacities for 36 years.
“This is a very happy day for Jim, (but) a sad day for the village, as he begins to draw down his time with the village of Potsdam,” Thompson said when presenting the award.
“(This is) an outstanding service award presented to James Corbett in appreciation for your 36 years of outstanding service and dedication to the village of Potsdam. We wish you the best my friend,” Thompson said, shaking Corbett’s hand during the presentation.
“Well done sir,” said Village Mayor Ron Tischler to Corbett.
“And don’t think just because you’re not here, you’re off the hook. Because I will have your… phone number,” Thompson quipped.
“I did tell you I changed my phone number,” responded Corbett.
