POTSDAM — The Potsdam Village Board of Trustees has approved the mayor’s appointment of a village clerk in training and gave the nod to two other personnel appointments.

At their meeting Monday, Jan. 24, the board also approved paying legal fees, accepted bids for surplus village property, and signed off on agreements with other governments.

The board approved Mayor Ron Tischler’s appointment of Georgine Scott as village clerk and registrar in training, effective Jan. 30 at an annual salary of $53,500. She will replace long-time Clerk Lori Queor who is expected to retire.

Scott was serving as deputy clerk.

The mayor also appointed Johanna Kastner, to the position of deputy clerk and deputy registrar effective Jan. 30 to fill Scott's unexpired term. The deputy clerk’s salary will be $43,500 annually.

The board of trustees appointed Brendan J. Tischler to the position of heavy equipment operator with the village Department of Public Works effective Jan. 17 at a rate of $24.89.

The trustees authorized the mayor to execute an agreement with the Town of Potsdam where that municipality pays the village $18,000 for maintenance at the Potsdam Museum.

The mayor was authorized to execute a second agreement obligating the town to pay the Potsdam Fire Department $135,400 to provide fire protection for the town outside the village of Potsdam and Norwood.

The board approved a hold harmless from liability agreement with St. Lawrence County concerning shared services for road work and maintenance in 2023. The county in return will maintain a certain level of its own liability insurance.

The board accepted two bids for two surplus village property lots. A bid of $501 from Lelia Thurston was accepted for 5 Mechanic St. and a bid of $101 from Brendan Tischler was accepted for a small parcel on Riverside Drive. These were the only two bids received for the properties.

Finally the board signed off on paying legal bills. Roemer Wallens Gold & Mineaux is to be paid $2,000 for retainer for labor relations services for January 2023. Frank W. Miller is to be paid $345.42 for legal services for December 2022.
