POTSDAM – Former Potsdam Village Trustee George F. Regan died this morning at the age of 59 after a long illness.
A statement from village Mayor Ron Tischler and the Board of Trustees said he died at about 7 a.m. at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, where he had been a patient for several days.
Regan was elected village trustee in 1995 and served in that position for 16 years, up until the time of his death. He was a Potsdam native.
He also served as the chairman of the village Community Development Corporation.
Regan also owned Potsdam Taxi.
“He was known for his wit and dedication to the community,” the village statement said. “His presence on the board will be missed by all.”
The village officials expressed their condolences to his wife Sue “and all of the Regan family.”
Regan was still a trustee but had opted not to run in the recent election to keep the seat. Despite his decision, he received two write-in votes.
