POTSDAM — The Potsdam town constable has been placed on leave pending the outcome of unlawful surveillance charges.
The town board convened a special meeting Monday morning (Jan. 25) and, after meeting in executive session, passed a resolution placing town constable Timothy A. Rivers, 58, on immediate paid leave.
Rivers is charged with two counts of second-degree unlawful surveillance, felonies, stemming from an incident Jan. 22, said the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies investigating the incident said Rivers allegedly recorded individuals on two separate occasions without their knowledge.
A no contact order of protection was issued in favor of the victims, deputies said.
Deputies were reportedly assisted by Homeland Security.
