POTSDAM -- The Town Council has approved a measure that would allow the board to exceed the property tax cap for the next budget if necessary.
The measure is a preliminary one and not necessarily an indication that the council members will approve exceeding the cap, which is set at two percent this year.
Supervisor Ann Carvill said that it is "possible" the board will do so, but it is too early to tell for certain as the board is in the early stages of budget building for 2019.
The measure came at Wednesday night's regular council meeting for October, which was preceded by a hearing on the tax cap measure.
No one spoke at the hearing.
The 2019 budget must be adopted by Nov. 20.
