POTSDAM – A Potsdam man was remanded to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility after he was involved in two motor vehicle accidents in the village of Potsdam on Thursday.
Potsdam police said patrols responded to a report of a property damage hit and run accident in Sandstone Drive around 7:17 p.m. Thursday. While patrols were investigating the accident, a patrol located a vehicle driven by Andrew M. France, 44 pulling out of a local business on to Market Street failing to yield the right of way and causing another two-car accident that injured France.
He was taken into custody and transported to the Potsdam Police Department, then transported to Canton-Potsdam Hospital where he was treated for a facial laceration. A DMV check on France showed his license to be revoked and indicated he had a previous DWI conviction within the past 10 years.
For the first accident, police charged France with operating out of ignition interlock restriction, speed not reasonable and prudent, failure to keep right, first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation - alcohol, and leaving the scene of a property damage accident
Charges from the second accident included operating out of ignition interlock restriction, no headlights, no tail lights, first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation - alcohol, failure to yield right of way when entering roadway, and driving while intoxicated.
France was arraigned in Potsdam Court and remanded to the county jail without bail. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for a later date.
