POTSDAM -- Firefighters were able to save a home after a fire was discovered in the attic.

Potsdam firefighters responded around 11:37 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19, to 1907 Morley Potsdam Road for a reported structure fire, according to fire officials.

The caller reported a smell of smoke in the ceiling, possibly electrical, officials said. Crews reportedly arrived on scene within minutes with no signs of fire showing from the front of the structure.

Upon entry into the home, a smoky haze was found throughout the residence. Firefighters found an active fire in the attic of the house, officials said. West Potsdam Fire was requested to scene for added manpower.

Firefighters used a K12 entry saw to gain entry into the attic and then used a thermal imaging camera to locate the fire, officials said. They then made entry into the attic from the kitchen with sheetrock hooks and pulled the insulation out of the attic that was on fire and extinguished the fire with a wet can extinguisher.

Salvage and overhaul was performed and there was reportedly no water damage to the home.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, officials said.

Potsdam Rescue provided fire standby on scene.

Potsdam Fire was back in service at 1:41 p.m.
