POTSDAM — Potsdam Central is ready to move ahead with its spring sports season.

This spring will see athletes compete in baseball and softball at all levels, golf, modified and varsity lacrosse for boys and girls, and varsity track & field for varsity and modified players.

Spring sports begin on Monday, April 19 for all JV and varsity teams. Modified teams begin practice on Monday, April 26.

Coaches include: Chris Donah, varsity baseball; Sean Scordo, JV baseball; Paul VanLeuven, modified baseball; Chris Johnson, golf; Kevin Talcott, varsity boys lacrosse; Jim Kirka and Zach Rottier, modified boys lacrosse; Sarah Bullard, varsity girls lacrosse; Michelle Kunz, modified girls lacrosse; Al Benda, varsity softball; Ashley Chevier, modified softball; Tony Vaccaro, varsity boys track & field; Jodie Tiernan, varsity girls track & field and Rebecca Pentalow and Dawn Rottier, modified boys and girls track and field.

A JV softball coach has not been named yet.

Prior to the first practice, athletes that did not compete in the winter or fall 2 season must return a completed COVID-19 Student Permission Form and Release, school officials say.

“Prior to each practice, all athletes must complete the athletic health screening questionnaire,” officials say. “The form will be shared with all athletes registered for a particular team. Any athlete exhibiting COVID related symptoms will not be allowed to practice/compete.”

PCS is recommending all athletes participating in high-risk sports, who are 13 years of age and older, be tested for COVID-19 antigens at least once per week using the Abbott BinaxNOW Rapid Test. It is anticipated that this will be in effect for boys lacrosse for the spring season as well.

Outdoor activities are limited to two spectators per participant. Spectators will need to wear a mask and socially distance while attending. Final details for spectators will be communicated to parents by the school prior to the first contest.
