Positive COVID-19 cases jump to 11 in St. Lawrence County

As of March 28th 2020, there are 11 positive COVID-19 test results for St. Lawrence County, according to St. Lawrence County Public Health officials.

Numbers are expected to increase as testing ramps up and results return.

On Friday  St. Lawrence County Public Health Department confirmed the county had only six cases

St. Lawrence County now has community spread of COVID-19. Current cases have been identified from Massena, North Lawrence, Ogdensburg, Potsdam, and St. Regis Falls.

According to the CDC, "community spread" means officials cannot determine how or where people are being infected with the disease.

“We need to focus on slowing the community spread,” public health said in a Friday news release.

All confirmed cases are people living in St. Lawrence County and they are currently in mandatory isolation at home.

The St. Lawrence County Public Health Department is monitoring these individuals twice daily and contacting those who may have been in contact with these individuals through an extensive interview to determine whether quarantine or testing may be required, public health officials said.

Public health offers the following guidance to slow community spread of the disease:

• Stay home. Travel only for essential needs: medical, groceries, and employment. In public, keep at least six feet distance from others.

• Regularly self-monitor your own symptoms. Be on alert if you have a fever, cough, or shortness of breath.

• Contact your provider if you need medical care; call ahead so they are ready for you

• Separate yourself from others (self-isolate) by using a separate bedroom and bathroom, avoid sharing all personal items

They say people should self-isolate if they have: symptoms of fever, cough, or shortness of breath; have been tested for COVID-19; or have traveled back from an area within New York State with significant numbers of confirmed cases

If you have recently returned from travel and have questions on whether you should self-isolate, you should contact the public health department at: 315-244-4542.

People with additional questions regarding COVID-19 can contact the St. Lawrence County COVID-19 Call Center at 315-229-3970 or email eoccallcenter@stlawco.org. The COVID-19 Call Center is open daily between 8am and 4pm at this time.
