Police unions endorse Mark Walczyck for North Country Assembly seat

State Assemblyman Mark Walczyk, R-Watertown, recently picked up two law enforcement union endorsements.

He has been endorsed by the New York State Law Enforcement Officers Union, Council 82, Local 2390. Council 82 represents more than 50 law enforcement members in St. Lawrence County.

And he is endorsed by the New York State Troopers Police Benevolent Association (NYSTPBA).

The Troopers PBA is the largest law enforcement union in the state. It has nearly 6,000 members, both active and retired.

“Officers wake up every day, put on the uniform and walk out the door to protect us, no questions asked and I’m incredibly humbled to be endorsed by Council 82, Local 2390,” said Assemblyman Mark Walczyk. “We need fighters in Albany that will stand up for common sense and push back against policy that compromises public safety. I back the blue and I’m honored they back me,” Walczyk said in a prepared statement.

"Council 82 Local 2390 is proud to endorse Mark Walczyk for the 116th Assembly District seat. He has listened to our concerns and has been very clear that he will not support bills that hamper law enforcement officers or endanger public safety," said Joseph Lalonde, President of Council 82 Local 2390. "Lately it seems common sense is in short supply in Albany, which is why we can't afford to lose Mr. Walczyk from the Assembly. Mark Walczyk has proven to us that he will stand up for the North Country in the political arena that tends to forget that what applies to New York City does not always apply to us."

“It’s beyond humbling to earn the backing of the NYS Troopers PBA,” Walczyk said in a prepared statement. “These brave men and women put on their boots in the morning and don't know what they're going to encounter. On any given day, they see the victims of homicide, suicide, rape, human trafficking, and scores of people having the worst day of their life. We need more leaders in Albany that will stick up for them. I’ll always have their back and I’m so grateful for their support of my re-election campaign.”

"Albany's recent barrage of legislative proposals have done nothing to support law enforcement, especially New York State Troopers and it's never been more clear that we need lawmakers, like Assemblyman Mark Walczyk, who will stand up and 'back the blue'," said Thomas Mungeer, president of the New York State Troopers Police Benevolent Association (NYSTPBA). "The NYSTPBA is proud to endorse Assemblyman Mark Walczyk for State Assembly. Mark's record of fighting for our rights so we can protect our communities is critical to keeping the public safe. Assemblyman Walczyk has our back, and we have his."

Walczyk is seeking his second term in the State Assembly to represent the 116th Assembly District.
