FORT COVINGTON -- State police are investigating an apparent "drive-by" shooting in Fort Covington early this morning.
Police said the incident occurred about 3:30 a.m., when a Chateaugay Street house was struck several times by gun fire. No one was injured as a result of the shooting.
Troopers said they believe the incident was not a random act, and that the shooter intended to fire at the residence.
State police Bureau of Criminal Investigation and uniformed officers are continuing to investigate the incident, troopers said. The Troop "B" Forensic Identification Unit is also taking part in the investigation.
Franklin County District Attorney Derick Champagne's office was appraised of the situation and is participating in the investigation, police said.
Fort Covington is located just east of the St. Lawrence County border with Franklin County near Bombay.
