GOUVERNEUR — A Gouverneur woman was arrested March 4 for assault and resisting arrest after kicking and scratching state trooper in the face when she was being taken into custody, according to Gouverneur police.
On Monday, March 4, Nicole L. Cash, 30, was charged at 8:16 a.m. with second-degree assault, resisting arrest, second-degree harassment, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, and inadequate stop lamps, officers said.
She was seen to be driving a vehicle on East Main Street with a defective driver’s side brake light, police said. Further investigation revealed that the defendant’s driver’s license had been suspended.
Cash allegedly became disorderly by screaming and yelling profanities, causing a scene for passing traffic, police said.
She attempted to bite a village police officer as she was being place in custody, officers said. She also kicked and scratched a state trooper in the face for which he suffered facial lacerations, police said.
Cash was arrested and transported to the Gouverneur village police department where she was processed, officers said.
She was arraigned in the Gouverneur court before Judge Stanley Young and released under the supervision of probation, police said.
Cash is to return to Gouverneur court on a later date to face the charges.
