CANTON – Plans for a North Country “Military Trail” Scenic Byway are moving into another phase of project development, and the Adirondack North Country Association is inviting input at a Jan. 20 meeting at the Best Western.

ANCA’s project facilitators, Susan Fuller and Bob Hest of Fuller Communications in Malone, and Linda McQuinn, Director of Economic Development for Canton, plan the workshop for 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., with registration at 7:30 a.m.

Fuller will explain the Corridor Management Plan process and the benefit of being an ANCA Scenic Byway.

McQuinn will speak briefly about the value of the CMP process, based on her experience with the Maple Traditions Trail Scenic Byway.

Breakout sessions will focus on long-range and broadly desired outcomes for memorable visitors experiences, regional economic development, and enhancement of quality of life for communities and stakeholders; identifying recreation, tourism, transportation, marketing, and stewardship assets and opportunities along the Scenic Byway route that have not already been presented in recent community and regional planning and economic development plans; gathering ideas that will be used in “vision and theme” statements relevant to St. Lawrence County and the other byway counties, Franklin and Clinton; and exploring options for possible extension of the current Scenic Byway route from Massena to Potsdam and Canton.

Business owners, civic groups, residents, tourism offices, government leaders, chambers of commerce, state agencies, regional planning offices, and other interested parties are encouraged to attend.

For more information and to register in advance, contact Linda McQuinn at developer@cantonnewyork.us or 386-2871, ext. 5, or Bob Hest at rhest@adirondack.org or (518) 483-7593.
