PIERREPONT -- Rex T. Burns Jr., 44, Pierrepont, has been charged with one misdemeanor count of animal cruelty after he allegedly was found to have abandoned a dog at a residence at 5274 County Route 24 in the Town of Pierrepont from which he had been evicted, police said.
State police, who made the arrest, said that on Oct. 8, the Town of Pierrepont dog control officer responded and found a dog outside in a kennel at that address with no food or water and living in deplorable conditions.
The dog, a 10-year-old black Labrador mix, was emaciated from not being fed, and found to have several medical issues after it was later evaluated by a local veterinarian, police said.
The dog is at the Potsdam Humane Society recovering, police said.
Burns was charged with one count of section 353 in the Agriculture and Markets Law. He was released on an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Pierrepont Court, police said.
