Pierrepont Hill Cemetery Association taking donations for improvements to graves of more than 70 veterans

PIERREPONT – More than 70 veterans are buried in the Pierrepont Hill Cemetery, including Revolutionary War Veteran Reverend Nathan Crary and about 30 Civil War Veterans.

The Cemetery Association has been working to honor all the Veterans by improving their graves and the cemetery in general. Work will continue in 2023, including a fundraising campaign to place flowers on each Veteran grave on Memorial Day.

This spring every grave will also have a Veteran flag holder provided jointly by the Canton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1231 and the Colton AMVETS Post 262. Flags are provided every year by the Town of Pierrepont. Funds from the NYS Division of Cemeteries and community, family and memorial donations enabled the repair of headstones on seven Veteran graves as well as other monuments in the cemetery. The Cemetery Association is also grateful to the Northern New York Community Foundation Rock Charitable Fund for a replacement cemetery roadside sign.

Donations are now being accepted to place flowers on each Veteran grave for Memorial Day. A donation of $10 will place marigolds on a Veteran’s grave.  Donations may be sent to the Treasurer at 800 State Highway 68, Canton, NY 13617.  Include your email address and you will be notified of the name of the Veteran your flowers honored.

If you know of a Veteran buried in Pierrepont and want the flowers on their grave, please specify that. The Pierrepont Hill Cemetery is an IRS tax exempt organization and will provide receipts upon request.
